Google's Blogger Cracking Down On Adult Ads

Starting this weekend, Google will be cracking down on Blogger users who start blogs in order to monetize adult content.

Blogger this week sent emails to those who host blogs with adult content, informing them that effective June 30, "we will be updating our Content Policy to strictly prohibit the monetization of adult content on Blogger," according to the note, which was tweeted by Violet Blue.

After that date, blogs found to be in violation of this policy will be removed by Google. "If your adult blog currently has advertisements which are adult in nature, you should remove them as soon as possible to avoid any potential Terms of Service violation and/or content removals," the note said.

Blogger's current content policy warns users not to "use Blogger as a way to make money on adult content."

"For example, don't create blogs where a significant percentage of the content is ads or links to commercial porn sites," the terms read.

A Google spokeswoman confirmed the move. "We will be updating our Content Policy to strictly prohibit the monetization of adult content on Blogger. We will remove blogs that are displaying advertisements to adult websites," she said.

As Blue noted in her tweet, Google has not defined what constitutes an adult advertisement, though that might be outlined in the update to its content policy.

The move does not appear to target adult content in general. According to Blogger, "we do allow adult content on Blogger, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. But, please mark your blog as 'adult' in your Blogger settings. Otherwise, we may put it behind a 'mature content' interstitial."

Content depicting incest, bestiality, or anything that exploits children is not allowed.
In related news, MiKandi has returned to Google Glass with an adult app that drops the nudity. The company was forced to alter its "Tits & Glass" app after Google banned pornographic apps on Glass.

Though Google "spoils the fun" by banning porn on Glass, MiKandi came up with a workaround by adding "a feature to filter out pornographic material from appearing on the Glass app."

Should Google change its mind about porn, meanwhile, MiKandi will "happily update our app so adult Glass users can get the sexy content they want."
